I live in Northeastern Ontario, in a city named Sudbury. I’m in the suburbs and have always dreamed of living in a more rural setting. This opportunity has not crossed my path yet, although I am sure open to the possibility one day. The land I’m tending to, was my parents before mine and I’ve lived here for over 40 years. I consider myself a homesteader in the city. My attitude is-If I can’t live in the country I can try to make my life as close to that experience as I can.
My yard is not the typical yard common to the suburbs. I’ve planted cedars and evergreens all around and allow my lawn to grow freely without any herbicides or fertilizers. Nature provides many remedies in the so called “weeds” I pick and use them for the purposes they were intended for. Learning about herbal remedies and the “old folk” ways is one of my passions.
Gardening is also something I absolutely love. I like living life simply without all the bells and whistles. Learning to make homemade products that do no harm and are frugal is something I do all the time. Whether it’s a personal product or something for the home, all my “concoctions” have been tested by me! I’ve been a vegetarian for over ten years. I have tried and created some very good recipes that I am glad to share with all.
My two children were brought up not to spend unnecessarily and to never waste. They have both grown into very conciseness adults, my cup overflows. I was blessed with my first Grandchild in 2014, I fell in LOVE with him the moment I set eyes on him. My heart is full of gratitude to have been present at his birth. I also experienced the loss of my dear Mother 54 days before his arrival. Myself and my children were with her when she took her last breath. She absolutely knew how much she was loved . 🙂 I truly saw “The circle of life.” during that time.
I like to be mindful of the gifts this life gives, it can be as full or as empty as we choose. I choose to fill mine with love, knowledge and experiences. I will share some of my adventure on this blog with you ~simply living on the rocks~
