At the time this poem was written, December of 2014. I was feeling extremely defeated in my own life and also forthe world and my fellow human beings. It had been a year since my Mother passed. Grieving, and not at all looking forward to the holidays. My mood was dark. I had been struggling through many losses, my dear Mom, a companion of two years, my mobility, my job, my co-workers, my activities and social life. Nothing was comfortable, nothing felt safe. At the time, I really just wanted to give up…
While deep in thought, I could hear my Mom, whispering… “it will be alright, Debbie “I began to remember the stories she told me, of the hard times in her life and how she never gave up. She lived through the depression, the second world war andlengthy INCO strikes. During the strikes, my father and her would take on painting jobs to keep ends tied. For extra income, she also would design, mend and alter clothing. She had cancer at the age of 38 and fully recovered with surgery and no other medical intervention. Four years later, my Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and suffered a painful two years until his death. At 44 she was widowed. Instead of giving up, she went back to school and became a PSW, she loved working with the elderly. After she retired, she took care of her two grandchildren whom she absolutely adored. She was determined to help, not only herself but anyone else she could. She taught me how to be loving, kind, resourceful, frugal and strong. I would not be honoring her existence, my children or my grandson if I were to allow myself to have thoughts of giving up on me or the world. She, and all the strong ones before us, ventured on and continued with determination to have a better life for all. That’s why I changed my mind…
My thoughts Today…a poem
Today I thought of giving up, but then I changed my mind.
I dug down deep, found the strength I felt was left behind.
I remembered ALL our Ancestors and their trials and tribulations.
They were honest and hard working without any domination.
With trust for all the leaders they played into their game.
Not protecting our resources now nothing is the same.
Everything is corporatized all the factories are gone.
Products made overseas can be bought here for a song.
While students pay outrageous debts for jobs never received.
Unemployment, hunger, homelessness and many more in need.
People shivering in their homes while the “fat cats” go and play!
Out on their yachts eating caviar while some won’t eat today.
Meanwhile, the rich get richer and the poor fall through the cracks.
Without resources to function they have a burden on their backs.
Continuously going, trying to make it from week to week.
No time for self, or time to think for the answers that they seek.
This life has so many distractions while the truth is plain to see.
We’ve all been taught lies since childhood, manipulated to a tee.
Lost lives and oppressed people in wars that have been fought.
Forests ravaged, fresh waters polluted, done without a thought.
What will our future generations have, if we don’t begin to care?
We are ALL here for a reason and given the opportunity to share.
Deep inside my heart I know, how creation intended it to be.
Real LOVE is our only POWER, not money can’t you see?
We can all teach one another the REAL values that we KNOW.
Live a genuine loving example and let’s help each other grow.
It’s time for ALL to come together caring for friends and family.
Stand up for your brothers and sisters and the rest of humanity.
Let’s make the good decisions that will stand the test of time.
Always, let your heart’s truth rule not the mighty dollar sign.
We must hold our leaders accountable think of future generations.
Dig down deep, find the strength and rebuild on a strong foundation.
